National Pet Month getting closer
Veterinary surgeries urged to sign up

The annual National Pet Month campaign to promote pet welfare, the benefits of pet ownership and public awareness of animal care specialists is getting closer. This year's National Pet Month will run from 7th April to 7th May, and the theme will be “Your pets and you: a winning team”.

National Pet Month is a registered charity that brings together animal welfare charities, pet businesses, professional bodies, youth groups, schools and pet lovers with the goal of improving pet welfare. The charities' trustees are the Pet Care Trust (PCT), Pet Food Manufacturers' Association (PFMA) and the National Office of Animal Health (NOAH).

Veterinary surgeries are being asked to sign up to this year's National Pet Month to help promote the message of improving pet welfare and health. Practices are expected to set up their own events or encourage clients to enter competitions.

Commenting, Chairman of National Pet Month Phil Sketchley said “Keep in touch with what’s on in your area by looking on our website. We are also planning some great competitions too. National Pet Month is an opportunity for us all to learn more about responsible pet care so we can enjoy our pets and make a winning team for many years to come.”

For details of how to join and become a supporter, see the National Pet Month website.

RCVS annual renewal fee for vets due

RCVS' annual renewal fee for veterinary surgeons is now due. Vets must pay their renewal fee before Wednesday, 1 April 2026.

This year's standard annual fee has increased to 431 from last year's 418. This is an approximately three per cent increase, as approved by RCVS Council and the Privy Council.

Tshidi Gardner, RCVS treasurer, said: "The small fee increase will be used to help deliver both our everyday activities and our new ambitious Strategic Plan, which includes aims such as achieving new legislation, reviewing the Codes of Professional Conduct and supporting guidance, and continuing to support the professions through activities such as the Mind Matters Initiative, RCVS Academy and career development."

A full breakdown of the new fees is on the RCVS website. Information about tax relief is available on the UK government website.
