Closure of RCVS Awarding Body Confirmed
Last month's VN Council
RCVS Council meeting confirms closure of awarding body.

At the council meeting of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons yesterday, it was confirmed that the awarding body of the RCVS will be closed.

The proposal was made at the VN Council meeting on the 11th October that, pending agreement by the RCVS Council, the RCVS will cease to operate as an Awarding Body for veterinary nurse qualifications.

It is seen as a positive step by the RCVS to separate the regulatory side of its duties from that of a qualification provider. Separation of these functions is an Ofqual regulatory requirement to avoid conflicts of interest.

The RCVS Council meeting took place yesterday 3rd November 2011 in London, where it was confirmed that henceforth the RCVS awarding body for veterinary nursing qualifications will cease to exist.
