Petsavers Photo Competition Opens
Petsavers, the British Small Animal Veterinary Association’s charity which is dedicated to improving the health of pets, is once again running its popular digital photographic competition and invites entries from vets and their clients up to Thursday 27th January 2011.

There have been some really creative entries in the past, so this year Petsavers has decided to let imaginations run wild and not limit photos to a particular theme. This means you can send in any picture of your pet you like! The judges will be looking for qualities like humour and character in the photos, as well as photographic skill.

The photography competition is open to all UK and Ireland residents who are amateur photographers, including pet owners, vets and veterinary nurses, and entrants will be judged in two categories: Adult, 16 and older and Junior, under 16. Entry to the competition is free to all via the Petsavers website. A maximum of one entry per person is allowed prizes will be awarded in the form of a photography vouchers to the top three photos from each category, 1st prize = £200, 2nd prize = £100, 3rd prize = £50.

The Petsavers competition is a great way to introduce pet owners to the charity that supports research into the health problems, which affect small animals – and perhaps even their own pets. Petsavers’ main aim is to provide vets with a better understanding of the illnesses that affect pets, find cures for diseases, and allow vets to administer the best treatments, ensuring pets enjoy longer and healthier lives. The charity itself has funded numerous studies into the treatment of disease and it is important to note that all Petsavers studies do not use experimental animals.

A series of posters and flyers will be available from Petsavers after the 1st September 2010 to promote the competition in veterinary practices. These offer an excellent way to educate pet owners and to get them involved in a fun, free and exciting competition. The standard of previous competitions was very high and the involvement of younger pet owners is always welcomed and encouraged.

VMD issues guidance on AVM-GSL packaging

The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) has shared advice on its requirements for medicines considered AVM-GSL.

The guidance explains the information that should be on the outer package, and sets out the typical maximum pack size for an AVM-GSL product. It also describes the user-friendly language, structure and phrases required on packaging and product leaflets.

AVM-GSL products do not require discussion between the purchaser and a veterinary professional. This means that clear product information is needed to support sales choices.

The information will be useful for submitting new products to the AVM-GSL category and lowering the distribution category of products from NFA-VPS to AVM-GSL.

The VMD's guidance can be accessed here.
