New Government Must Support Rural Economy, Says CLA
The CLA (Country Land and Business Association) has called for the rural economy not to be forgotten when forming the new Government in a hung parliament.

CLA President William Worsley said: "We need policies to help farmers and land managers continue to provide what society wants and expects from the countryside.

"This means having a Government that will fight for a Common Agricultural Policy that promotes both the production of food and a high quality natural environment; a Government that will introduce a planning system facilitating the development of small-scale business rather than frustrating it, and a Government that ensures that broadband of two megabits per second becomes a reality for all by 2012."

He added: "We need the right framework to enable land managers to deliver the public goods that are core to the future of life in Britain: putting food on our tables, safeguarding our environment and tackling global warming."

Annual submission deadline small pet animal exemptions

 Companies marketing medicines for small pets exempt from authorisation must submit their annual return to the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) by 30 November 2026.

Submitting this annual return ensures continued compliance with regulatory requirements for products marketed without a full Marketing Authorisation. The exemption specifically applies to products intended for animals, cage birds, terrarium animals, small rodents, ferrets and rabbits.

BVA urges 'continued vigilance' over bluetongue

The British Veterinary Association (BVA) has urged vigilance following a concerning rise in Bluetongue (BTV) cases in sheep and cattle.

In a recent statement, the BVA noted that members are reporting more severe clinical signs and higher mortality rates than in previous years.

'We know that farm vets are working hard to support farmers and animals affected by this outbreak, during what is an extremely difficult time for all involved,' they stated. 'Continued vigilance to identify disease early is vital and vaccination remains the best way of protecting animals from this disease.'
