What’s on the box this week?
What makes the perfect rock band?
Wildlife, adventure, drama – it’s all on offer this week with Sandra Bullock, Ian McKellan, Andy Warhol and Joanna Lumley all featuring in this latest round-up…

In terms of terrestrial television, a gripping drama is ‘The Prisoner’ – a remake of a 60s cult classic, which stars Ian McKellen. For the rockers among you, check out BBC2’s new series ‘I’m in a Rock ‘n’ Roll Band’, which aims to reveal what makes the perfect band. For art lovers there’s a refreshing look at modern art, specifically focussing on the millionaire lifestyles of modern masters; the first in the series looks at Andy Warhol.

Those looking for more wildlife themed programmes also have a few good options on the terrestrial channels. ‘Joanna Lumley’s Nile’ takes in the wonderful landscapes and wildlife along the actress’ journey along the Nile, in which she aims to pinpoint where it begins. Meanwhile later in the week, ‘Michaela’s Wild Challenge’ sees the eponymous presenter and friends undertaking wildlife-related challenges in outlandish locations.

For film-buffs, if you’ve not seen it then ‘Crash’ – on Film Four – is well worth watching. Starring Matt Dillon, Thandie Newton, Sandra Bullock in a range of intertwining plots, this Oscar-winning flick is utterly absorbing.

I’m in a Rock ‘n’ Roll Band, 9.40pm, Saturday 1st May – BBC2

RCVS annual renewal fee for vets due

RCVS' annual renewal fee for veterinary surgeons is now due. Vets must pay their renewal fee before Wednesday, 1 April 2026.

This year's standard annual fee has increased to 431 from last year's 418. This is an approximately three per cent increase, as approved by RCVS Council and the Privy Council.

Tshidi Gardner, RCVS treasurer, said: "The small fee increase will be used to help deliver both our everyday activities and our new ambitious Strategic Plan, which includes aims such as achieving new legislation, reviewing the Codes of Professional Conduct and supporting guidance, and continuing to support the professions through activities such as the Mind Matters Initiative, RCVS Academy and career development."

A full breakdown of the new fees is on the RCVS website. Information about tax relief is available on the UK government website.
