BVA publishes practical CMA resources
The resource pack includes short videos on some of the CMA's remedies.
The British Veterinary Association (BVA) has published a range of practical resources about the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) measures.
Its resources are designed to support veterinary teams to become compliant with the upcoming changes for their businesses.
The CMA remedies, which follow more than two years of investigation, are expected to come into effect from September 2026. Veterinary practices will gradually be required to make ‘fundamental’ changes to their business, including sharing ownership details, publishing price lists and submitting details for RCVS’ Find a Vet platform.
While the CMA is expected to release more details about these remedies throughout the summer, BVA has begun to publish members-only content on its dedicated CMA page.
The BVA’s current resource pack includes a downloadable guide to each of the CMA’s remedies. It has also recorded four short videos exploring remedies 1-5, incorporating new rules for required information, medicine prescription, complaints procedures and cremation services.
Dr Rob Williams, BVA president, said: “The first thing to say is that most of you will already be undertaking many, if not most of the measures required by the CMA in your day-to-day work and this next step will be about formalising these processes.
“We’re here to support the profession as it gets ready for change later in the year with practical resources to help you comply.”
The CMA’s remedy package will also feature as a key topic at this year’s BVA Live. The event programme includes two sessions regarding the requirements of vets and practices.
‘Managing complaints post-CMA, what do you need to know’ will see Dr Williams joined by head of VCMS Jennie Jones and practice director Gavin Durston to discuss effective complaints and mediation procedures.
Meanwhile ‘Hot topic: CMA remedies – what do they mean in practice?’ features a panel, including CMA inquiry chair Martin Coleman and representatives from BVA, BVNA and BSAVA, will discuss the impact of the CMA Orders on veterinary practices. This will include a presentation and Q&A from Mr Coleman on the CMA’s final decision and next steps.
