VMD to offer EMS placements

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to learn more about the work of the VMD and alternate career opportunities within the profession.
The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) is offering a two week EMS placement at its offices in Surrey to veterinary students in their final two years of study.
Aiming to provide students with both a comprehensive understanding of the VMD's work, and allows students to explore different career options within the veterinary profession.
Over the two week period, students will take part in a range of lectures and workshops, on topics including legal bases and authorisations of veterinary medicines, clinical trials design and conduct, prescribing and responsible use of veterinary medicines and insight into the work of the different VMD teams, alongside many other related topic areas.
Six places are available for veterinary students, and the placement will run from 4 to 15 July 2022, with applicants expected to be available for the full two week period. More information on the placements can be found here.
Anyone wishing to apply should download the EMS application form and email the completed form to ems@vmd.gov.uk, applications will close on 1 October 2021, and applicants will be informed of the outcome on 15 October 2021.
Successful applicants are expected to cover the cost of accommodation and travel independently.



Two independent vets have launched a podcast to help owners strengthen their bond with pets. Dr Maggie Roberts and Dr Vanessa Howie, who have worked in both veterinary practice and major charities, are keen to use their experience to enable people to give pets a better life.
