Budding 'Dr Dolittles' sought for writing competition
Do you have an animal-related story to share?
'Pet lovers and vets could be talented writers and undiscovered literary gems"

Vets are being invited to enter a writing competition run by the Page Turner Awards for a chance to get their story published or even made into a film.

Dubbed the 'Rolls Royce' of writing awards, the Page Turner competition provides an opportunity for aspiring writers to submit unpublished fiction and non-fiction work to be read by a panel of influential players in the publishing industry.

A spokesperson said: ‘Do you think of yourself as a magical healer, like Dr Dolittle. Or maybe you have a story to share about the times when, sadly, animals can’t be treated, and pet owners reflect on those moments they took for granted. Think Marley and Me.

‘Pet lovers and vets could be talented writers and undiscovered literary gems. Whether you have a veterinarian’s guide to caring for your pet, a gasp-inducing thriller, or the next-big-thing comedy, Page Turner Awards can’t wait to pass your story to their panel of influential literary agents, publishers and film producers.’

BSAVA publishes Guide to Nutrition in Small Animal Practice

The BSAVA has added a small animal nutrition advice booklet to its series of BSAVA guides.

The BSAVA Guide to Nutrition in Small Animal Practice offers a resource for veterinary professionals to provide appropriate nutrition for animals. As well as maintaining the wellbeing of healthy pets, the guide explores how nutritional requirements change in times of illness and disease.

The guide is divided into five sections, which explore the importance of nutritional assessment; diet types; feeding at different life stages; feeding for specific situations; and feeding for specific diseases. Online resources are also in the BSAVA Library including client handouts and videos.

It is designed to be suitable for referencing, in-depth case planning and team training sessions.
