Canine health research funding

US partnership set to improve health of dogs

The American Kennel Club Canine Health Foundation (CHF) has teamed up with Orapup to advance canine health by raising awareness and funding scientific research.

Both organisations aim to help dogs live longer, healthier lives, therefore Orapup – the manufacturers of dog tongue cleaners – have agreed to contribute a portion of its sales to CHF.

Orapup will also help increase traffic to the foundation's website by creating a series of YouTube videos.

The funding and increased awareness will allow CHF to sponsor research committed to finding better treatments and more accurate diagnosis for canine health concerns, including cancer, heart disease, bloat and many other illnesses.

Established in 1995, CHF also provides free articles, podcasts and webinars as a resource to all dog owners.

Terry Warren, CEO of the foundation, said: "Orapup's fundraising and social media efforts will help further our efforts to address the needs of all dogs across their entire lifetimes by focusing on all aspects of their physical, mental and social wellbeing."

Meanwhile, Jeff Davis, CEO of the company behind Orapup, commented that they are looking forward to advancing CHF's innovative research to help dogs everywhere maintain happy and healthy lifestyles.

RCVS annual renewal fee for vets due

RCVS' annual renewal fee for veterinary surgeons is now due. Vets must pay their renewal fee before Wednesday, 1 April 2026.

This year's standard annual fee has increased to 431 from last year's 418. This is an approximately three per cent increase, as approved by RCVS Council and the Privy Council.

Tshidi Gardner, RCVS treasurer, said: "The small fee increase will be used to help deliver both our everyday activities and our new ambitious Strategic Plan, which includes aims such as achieving new legislation, reviewing the Codes of Professional Conduct and supporting guidance, and continuing to support the professions through activities such as the Mind Matters Initiative, RCVS Academy and career development."

A full breakdown of the new fees is on the RCVS website. Information about tax relief is available on the UK government website.
